One of the cool things that I like about Christmas is the general beauty of the story. The beauty of a baby. The beauty of the star. It is that picture of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus welcoming the shepherds underneath the angelic star that always comes to my mind and makes me smile.
Yet, I acknowledge that I have to be careful. Sometimes I am tempted to leave Jesus in that manger. I am tempted to forget that He is much more than that.
He is prophet, priest, and king. All three of these titles are given to our Lord Jesus. They declare the scope of His ministry to us. Jesus is not just a king who gives leadership. Jesus is not just a prophet who shows us God. He is not just a priest that helps us everyday live out our life for God. He is all three.
Jesus gives us leadership that we need. He shows us what way to go. Jesus shows us God. When we need to know what God is like, Jesus shows us. And when we need to know that Someone is in the trenches right next to us, Jesus is there. He is not just one of these things. He is all of these things. He is everything we need.
When we see the baby in the manger, it is easy to forget that Jesus is much more than that. It is easy to just get caught up in the moment of beauty and miss His true majesty. As you celebrate how God keeps His promises in Jesus this Christmas, remind yourself and your family that Jesus is much, much more than a baby. He is everything we need.
Something to think about,
Pastor John
