Last week we looked at Tim Kimmel’s first mark of the family that is overstressed. Now it is time for the second –
The second mark of the hurried family is that they cannot enjoy quiet. They are always plugged into some music making or video playing device. They cannot ever take a break from it. It is a constant distraction. It is a distraction from having to talk to one another. It is a distraction from having to really engage people. Ultimately, it is a distraction from having to hear God.
Why do we do it? Why do we fill our lives with noise and entertainment to the elimination of the people in our lives? Ultimately, it is because there is something in our lives that we don’t want to face. We don’t want to face our doubts. We don’t want to face our insecurities. We even don’t want to face the disappointments of others. We are running. So, we fill our lives with something, anything, to distract us.
It is time to stop running. It is time to stop filling our lives with the distractions that keep us from talking, keep us from thinking, and keep us from working through the normal struggles of life.
Is that you, today? Hear God’s invitation to slow down, unplug, and walk with Him. He wants you to have real relationships, real significance, and a real life. Come today. Come home today.
Here’s to families,
